CERTIFICATION DESCRIPTION

This Online Certification is the first step toward becoming a certified Action-Based Cognitive Remediation (ABCR) therapist. This program provides essential knowledge on the background, theory, and evidence behind the intervention, along with step-by-step guidance for effective implementation.

Upon completing the certification, you’ll be equipped with the expertise to begin delivering ABCR within your service setting.

ABCR is a group based intervention that uniquely combines principles of cognitive-behavioural therapies with cognitive training. It includes computer based training exercises, group discussion and bridging exercises that simulate real-world tasks.

This certification includes:

• An overview of cognitive health and cognitive deficits in schizophrenia and related disorders, according to the most recent research.
• The theoretical basis of digital technologies available to deliver cognitive interventions, including that of security and confidentially, as well as the technical expertise required to utilize these tools effectively in delivering ABCR.
• The theoretical basis of cognitive remediation and ABCR, evidence of efficacy, mechanism of action and structure of intervention.
• How to plan ABCR sessions, how to implement specific ABCR techniques (e.g. strategy teaching, drill and practice and skills transfer simulations) and how to deal with challenges during sessions.

Important: This training is intended to help you get started as a ABCR facilitator but does not replace the extensive study of the ABCR manual. You will have access to the manual for download once you are enrolled in this certification. A newly-reviewed manual for the remote delivery of ABCR is also available in this training.

WHY THIS CERTIFICATION MATTERS

To facilitate ABCR with clients, you must complete this online training.

Additionally, you must engage in ongoing supervision with an experienced ABCR therapist upon starting client work. Our structured supervision plan includes setup sessions and weekly meetings once therapy groups commence.

If you are purchasing for a group of therapists, please note that each therapist is required to complete the training and participate in the supervision sessions—these can be arranged as group sessions.
